The Short Answer
A PIP mobility award is worth more than the weekly payment. GOV.UK lists a Blue Badge, a vehicle tax discount or exemption, and the Motability Scheme for the higher rate. Either rate qualifies for a Disabled Persons Railcard. None of it is automatic — each has its own application — and the enhanced rate opens considerably more than the standard rate.
What Each Rate Opens
The gap between the two mobility rates is wider than the £49.70 a week suggests.

GOV.UK sets out the vehicle and travel entitlements in its financial help guidance, and lists the Motability Scheme as available "if you get the higher mobility rate of PIP".
Motability
The whole enhanced mobility allowance exchanged for a leased vehicle. Insurance, servicing and breakdown cover are included, and up to three drivers can be added.
It requires the enhanced rate with at least 12 months of award remaining. The full terms are on Motability, and the quarterly Advance Payment bands are on Motability Car List.
Vehicle Tax
A full exemption on the enhanced rate, a 50% reduction on the standard rate. It applies to one vehicle at a time, and the vehicle must be used by or for the person receiving the allowance.

Blue Badge
Not decided by the rate, but by the descriptors. A Blue Badge can follow automatically from particular scores rather than from the award level, which is why someone on the standard rate may qualify and someone on the enhanced rate may not.

Beyond Transport
A PIP award also affects other people's benefits and other household costs. A carer providing at least 35 hours of care a week for someone on either rate of the daily living part may qualify for a carer's element in Universal Credit.
Council Tax and local bus travel discounts are administered by local councils rather than the DWP, and GOV.UK directs claimants to contact their council to check. Those and the premiums that a PIP award can add are on Extra Money PIP Unlocks.
Nothing Here Is Automatic
Every entitlement on this page needs its own application. The DWP does not notify Motability, the DVLA, your council or the railcard scheme when an award is made.
That is the single most common way money is left unclaimed after a successful PIP decision. Working through the list once, when the decision letter arrives, is a job of an afternoon.
