The Short Answer
The PIP mobility component pays £30.30 a week at the standard rate and £80.00 at the enhanced rate. Eight points across the two mobility activities pays the standard rate and 12 points pays the enhanced rate, under regulation 6(3). The enhanced rate is worth £49.70 a week more and is the rate that qualifies for the Motability Scheme, which makes it the largest step in the assessment in practical terms.

The enhanced rate is more than two and a half times the standard rate, which is a wider gap than the daily living component's. It is the largest proportional step anywhere in PIP, and it turns on a single points threshold. The pip rates explained hub sets both components out together.
Why the Mobility Threshold Matters More
Only two activities feed it, so single descriptors decide rates. Daily living spreads 8 or 12 points across ten activities, and most claims reach a threshold by accumulating. Mobility has two activities, and both contain descriptors worth 12 points on their own.
On planning and following journeys, being unable to follow the route of a familiar journey without another person, an assistance dog or an orientation aid scores 12. On moving around, being able to stand and then move no more than 20 metres scores 12. Either reaches the enhanced rate without help from the other.
What the Mobility Rates Have Paid Since 2022
Rates rise each April, and arrears for an earlier period are paid at the rate then in force.

GOV.UK lists the Motability Scheme as available "if you get the higher mobility rate of PIP", and sets out the vehicle tax positions in its financial help guidance. A Blue Badge may also follow from a mobility award, with the rules set by each nation rather than by the DWP.
What the Component Is Assessed On
Two activities: planning and following journeys, and moving around. The first assesses limitations deriving from mental health, cognitive and sensory impairments; the second assesses the physical distance you can stand and then move.
GOV.UK removes the most common misreading directly: "You do not have to have a physical disability to get the mobility part. You might also be eligible if you have difficulty getting around because of a cognitive or mental health condition, like anxiety."
